WD My Passport SSD 1TB — Portable NVMe SSD with Hardware Encryption
Portable NVMe SSD1TB · BlueUp to 1050 MB/sAES-256 hardware encryption
The WD My Passport SSD 1TB (WDBAGF0010BBL) is a pocket-size portable NVMe SSD for professionals and students who move large files every day: up to 1050 MB/s read and 1000 MB/s write over USB 3.2 Gen 2, 256-bit AES hardware encryption with password protection, and a metal design that is drop resistant up to 1.98 m.
It connects with the supplied USB-C cable to USB-C computers, tablets and phones, and the included USB-C to USB-A adapter covers older laptops and desktops. WD backup software is included, and the drive works with Time Machine after reformatting.
Before you order: The full 1050 MB/s needs a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) port; on USB 3.0/3.2 Gen 1 ports the drive is limited to about half of that, and on USB 2.0 it is much slower. Password protection is set up with the WD software.

- WD My Passport SSD 1TB (blue)
- USB-C to USB-C cable (USB 3.2 Gen 2)
- USB-C to USB-A adapter
- WD backup and password software (downloadable)
- Quick Install Guide
What It Means in Practice
- A 20GB video project copies in well under a minute on a 10Gb/s port — fast enough to edit directly from the drive.
- Hardware AES-256 encryption with a password means a lost drive does not expose your files, as long as the password is set.
- The adapter lets the same drive move between a new USB-C MacBook and an older office PC with USB-A.
- At 45.7 g and 9 mm thick it fits in a pocket or card wallet slot.
What Will Not Work
- Full speed on USB 3.0 / 5Gb/s ports — expect roughly half the rated speed.
- Password protection without first setting it up in the WD software.
- Time Machine out of the box — reformat for macOS first, which erases the drive.
- Water or dust exposure — no IP rating is published.

Frequently Asked Questions
How fast is it on my laptop?
Up to 1050 MB/s on a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) port. On a 5Gb/s USB 3.0 port it runs at roughly half that.
Does it work with an iPhone or iPad?
USB-C iPhones and iPads can read and write files on it via the Files app if it is formatted exFAT. Password-protected drives must be unlocked on a computer first.
What happens if I forget the password?
The data cannot be recovered without the password — that is the point of hardware encryption. Store the password safely.
Does it work with Windows 11 and recent macOS?
WD's datasheet lists Windows 10/8.1 and macOS; as a standard USB mass-storage device it is used on newer systems too, but WD software support is listed per version.
