The Zebra P1080383-407 is the genuine latch assembly for the Zebra ZD420d and ZD620d 4-inch direct thermal desktop label printers, at both 203 and 300 dpi. The latch holds the clamshell cover shut and keeps the printhead pressed down on the platen roller while the printer runs.

If the cover no longer clicks shut, springs open, or the printer keeps reporting “head open” with the lid closed, a broken or worn latch is a likely cause. Zebra lists this part in both the ZD420 and ZD620 direct thermal parts catalogues, so one part covers both families.

• The lid closes and locks positively again, so the printhead sits at the right pressure and the printer stops throwing head-open errors.
• Zebra does not publish a user replacement procedure for the latch in the user guide — plan it as a technician-level repair, or ask us to fit it.
• Keep the printer powered off and unplugged while the cover mechanism is being worked on.

• It will not fit the thermal transfer ZD420t — that model uses latch P1080383-207.
• It will not fit the ZD421d / ZD421t or ZD621 — they use the P1112640 parts family.
