The Zebra Z-Perform 1000T 87985 is an economy thermal transfer matte paper label with a general-purpose permanent adhesive and high initial tack on corrugated packaging, supplied as 4 rolls of 102 x 152 mm white labels for Zebra industrial printers and print engines. It suits box and packaging labelling, high-volume carton labels, product identification, work-in-progress tags and warehouse shipping and receiving.
Because it is thermal transfer media, the image is transferred from a ribbon, which gives a more durable print than direct thermal paper but means you need a matching ribbon on the printer. Zebra positions it for applications of less than 3 years, with acceptable print quality and durability when used with Zebra 2300 or 2100 wax ribbons on recommended printers.
Before you order: This is an industrial roll on a 76 mm core. It is made for Zebra industrial printers and print engines; it will not fit desktop printers such as the ZD or GK series. It is thermal transfer media, so a ribbon is required.

What It Means in Practice
- Pair it with the right ribbon: set the printer to thermal transfer, fit a Zebra 2300 or 2100 wax ribbon at least as wide as the label, then calibrate.
- Label size 102 x 152 mm (width x length). Your label template must use the same size or the printer will print across label gaps.
- Sensing: perforation. Set the printer to the matching sensor mode (gap/notch or black mark) if labels skip.
- Typical jobs: box and packaging labelling, high-volume carton labels, product identification, work-in-progress tags and warehouse shipping and receiving.
- For longer label life or harsher handling, a wax/resin ribbon on a topcoated label gives more scratch and smudge resistance than wax on uncoated paper.
What Will Not Work
- Desktop printers (ZD, GK, GX, GC series): the 76 mm core and large roll diameter do not fit their media compartment.
- Direct-thermal-only printers (models ending in d, e.g. ZD421d, GK420d, ZQ mobile printers): this is thermal transfer media and needs a ribbon.
- Temporary or repositionable labelling: the adhesive is permanent and will tear or leave residue if removed.
- Long-life or harsh-environment labels: Zebra rates this economy paper for applications of under 3 years.
