The DIGITUS DN-81001 is a Gigabit SFP transceiver for single-mode fibre: 1000BASE-LX at 1310 nm over an LC duplex connection (two fibres), reaching up to 20 km on 9/125 µm fibre. It is the universal, MSA-compliant DIGITUS LX module, and DIGITUS lists a long range of switch brands it works with. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is a duplex module that uses two fibres. Do not confuse it with the DN-81003, which has an almost identical title but is a single-fibre BiDi module. It needs single-mode fibre and an LX module at the far end, and it will not come up in a 10G-only port. For HP / Aruba switches choose DN-81001-01, for Cisco-coded ports DN-81001-02. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Built for single-mode (OS1/OS2) fibre, the type used between buildings, floors and sites. It will not run over the orange or aqua multimode fibre found in many racks — the fibre type has to match at both ends.
