The BlueOptics 10302-BO is a 10 Gbit SFP+ transceiver for single-mode fibre, reaching up to 10 km at 1310 nm over a duplex LC connection, with digital diagnostics. It is programmed with the coding of the Extreme Networks 10302, so Extreme Networks switches identify it as that part. BlueOptics builds it on its BO35J13610D hardware and backs it with a 5-year functional warranty. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is coded as an Extreme 10302, which is the LR (single-mode, 10 km) part. 10301 is the multimode SR part and 10338 is 10GBASE-T copper — one digit changes the product. It needs single-mode fibre (OS1/OS2): the orange or aqua multimode fibre in many racks looks the same but will not carry this link. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
