The Cisco SFP-10/25G-LR-S= is a dual-rate SFP28 transceiver that runs 10 Gbps or 25 Gbps over single-mode fibre, up to 10 km at either speed. The “=” suffix is Cisco’s spare part, ordered separately from a switch. It suits data-centre and campus links on Cisco switches with SFP28 ports, where one optic covers today’s 10G link and tomorrow’s 25G upgrade. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.

Compatibility — check before buying:
At 25G Cisco states that this module requires RS-FEC on the host port — a port without it will not bring the 25G link up. It needs single-mode fibre with standard PC-polished LC cords; APC patch cords are not supported. Both ends must run the same speed. Don’t confuse it with SFP-10/25G-CSR-S, the multimode version, or SFP-10/25G-LR-I, the industrial-temperature version. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Will it work at 10G?
Yes. Cisco lists 10 km reach at both 10G and 25G. Both ends of the link must run the same speed.
Why does my 25G link not come up?
Cisco states that 25G operation needs RS-FEC enabled on the host port. Check the port’s FEC setting and that the switch and software release are listed for this module in Cisco’s TMG matrix.
Are fibre patch cords included?
No. You get 1 module. The Dual LC/PC (APC patch cords not supported) patch cord, a matching module for the far end of the link and a fibre cleaning tool are bought separately. Tell us the distance and the fibre type and we quote the right cord.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
Cisco modules carry Cisco Quality ID coding, and Cisco’s installation notes say to use only Cisco transceivers in Cisco devices. Support is confirmed per host model and software release in the Cisco TMG matrix. Cisco does not publish operation in other brands’ switches, so we do not promise it — send us the model and we check it.
