How to choose the right workstation
- Why a workstation and not an office PC. Workstations are built for professional graphics cards, more memory and long hours at full load, and the major models are tested with professional software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks and Adobe applications.
- Check the graphics card. Some configurations ship with integrated graphics only. For CAD and 3D choose a model with a professional NVIDIA RTX card; for rendering and AI, more video memory (VRAM) matters most.
- Processor. Modelling and CAD benefit from high clock speed, so Core Ultra 7 and 9 work well. Rendering, simulation and heavy video work benefit from more cores. Intel Xeon models add ECC memory for long, critical jobs.
- Memory. 32 GB is a sensible minimum for CAD and BIM. Choose 64 GB or more for large assemblies, point clouds, rendering or 4K+ video.
- Size. Mini and tiny models save space but take only compact graphics cards. Small form factor takes low-profile cards. Towers take full-size cards and have the most room for drives and upgrades.
- Storage. An NVMe SSD for the system, and a second drive for projects and cache, keeps large files fast.
- Mac Studio suits teams already working on macOS for video, audio and design.
