Poly CS540A — Convertible DECT Wireless Headset with Base Station
Up to 120 m DECT rangeOnly 21 g on the earBase station includedThree wearing styles in the box
The Poly CS540A is a complete DECT wireless headset system for a desk phone: a base station that sits beside the handset, and a 21 gram convertible headset that can be worn over the head, over the ear or on the ear depending on which fitting you clip on. DECT reaches up to 120 metres, so a call can follow you to the far side of the floor. Part number 8J8V4AA#ABB is the 1880 to 1900 MHz version, which is the European DECT band.
Compatibility — check before buying:
The single most important thing to know: this system connects to a desk phone over an RJ-11 telephone interface cable, and nothing in the box connects it to a computer. If you want a wireless headset for a laptop and softphone, this is the wrong product. Two further points. Remote call answering — picking up a call from across the room — needs an HL10 handset lifter or an electronic hook switch cable that matches your phone, and neither is included. And the frequency band matters: the North American CS540A runs at 1920 to 1930 MHz and is not the right part for Cyprus. Tell us your desk phone model and we will confirm the interface and the lifter or EHS cable it needs.
Best For
✓ Desk phone users who leave the desk during calls
✓ Reception and front-of-house positions
✓ Anyone who finds a headband uncomfortable, thanks to the convertible fittings
✓ Offices where 120 m of range is genuinely useful
✓ Sites conferencing up to four headsets on one base
✓ Long shifts where 21 g beats every other comfort feature
Key Features
21 grams on the ear
Poly publishes a 21 gram headset weight, which is an order of magnitude lighter than a typical binaural office headset. It is the reason the CS500 series is still specified for all-day reception work.
Three ways to wear it
A headband, an earloop and an eartip are all supplied, along with a kit of additional eartips and earloops, so the same headset fits people who cannot get on with a headband.
DECT range that leaves the room
Up to 120 metres, or 350 feet, with wideband and narrowband audio support — enough to take a call to the printer or the next office without it breaking up.
Up to four headsets on one base
Poly publishes conferencing of up to four headsets on a single base station, which turns one desk into a small ad-hoc conference position without any extra hardware.

Singular Expert Insight
DECT headsets like the CS540A belong to a world where the phone on the desk is the phone, and they are still the best answer in that world: far more range than Bluetooth, a base that charges the headset automatically, and a 21 gram convertible design that people actually keep wearing. The mistake to avoid is buying one for a laptop. Nothing in this box talks to a computer, and adding that path later costs more than buying the right headset first. Look at the USB and Bluetooth options in Office & VoIP Headsets if a softphone is really the target, or Headphones for lighter-duty needs.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Your calls come through a desk phone and you need to move around while on them. You want the lightest possible headset for all-day wear. You want the flexibility of three wearing styles in one box.
Skip it if
Your calls are on a laptop or a softphone — nothing here connects to a computer. You need remote call answering and do not want to buy a lifter or EHS cable. You need a headset that covers both ears.
Also consider
Poly Savi wireless systems if you need both a desk phone and a computer on one headset. Yealink WH64 Hybrid for DECT to a PC plus Bluetooth to a mobile. Add an HL10 lifter or an EHS cable to this system for remote call answering.
