The Equip 128962 is a 100 mm aluminium bar that plugs into a USB-C laptop or tablet on a 15 cm captive cable and gives back four working sockets plus a charging input. One USB-A port runs at 5 Gbps, two more are USB 2.0, there is a USB-C data port, and the fifth connector takes up to 100 W of Power Delivery so the laptop keeps charging while the hub is in use. It weighs 23 grams.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Two things decide whether this is the right hub for you. First, only one of the three USB-A ports is 5 Gbps — the other two are USB 2.0 at 480 Mbps. Put an external SSD or a fast card reader in the 5 Gbps socket and keep the mouse, keyboard and dongles on the other two. Second, the USB-C connector marked PD is a charging input only: you plug your laptop’s own charger into it, up to 100 W, and it is not a data port. The separate USB-C data port carries data only — Equip publishes no video output and no DisplayPort Alt Mode, so this hub will not drive a monitor. The host plug is USB-C, so a machine with only USB-A ports cannot use it. Equip does not publish the speed of the USB-C data port, a chipset, or a per-port current figure.

Can I charge my laptop through it?
Yes — plug your existing USB-C charger into the port marked PD and up to 100 W passes through to the laptop. The charger is not included; this hub uses the one you already have.
Will it connect a monitor?
No. Equip publishes no video output and no DisplayPort Alt Mode for this hub, so neither USB-C port will drive a screen. If you need a display, tell us your laptop model and we will point you at a hub or dock that does it.
Which port should my external SSD go in?
The single USB 3.2 Gen 1 USB-A socket. The other two USB-A sockets are USB 2.0 and will cap a drive at 480 Mbps.
Does it work on an iPad or a Chromebook?
Equip lists Chrome OS and macOS 10.6 and above alongside Windows. Any device with a USB-C port that supports USB host mode will see the ports; charging through the PD input depends on the device accepting it.
Singular Expert Insight
The 100 W pass-through is what this hub is for. On a laptop with two USB-C ports and nothing else, a hub that occupies one of them and gives nothing back on charging is a poor trade — this one hands the socket back. The port mix is the compromise you accept for the size: one fast socket, two slow ones and a USB-C data port, in 23 grams of aluminium. Use the fast port for an external SSD or a flash drive and leave the USB 2.0 pair for input devices, and it behaves exactly as it should. If you also need a screen, this is the wrong category — ask us and we will look at docks instead.
