Internal solid-state drives to make a PC or laptop start in seconds and open programs faster: M.2 NVMe SSDs in PCIe 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0, M.2 SATA SSDs, and 2.5-inch SATA SSDs to replace an old hard drive. From Samsung, Kingston, Crucial, Western Digital, Lexar, Transcend, ADATA and many more.
How to choose an internal SSD
- Slot. Check whether your computer has an M.2 slot (NVMe or SATA) or a 2.5-inch bay. M.2 NVMe and M.2 SATA drives look alike but are not interchangeable.
- Length. Most desktops take M.2 2280; some laptops and handhelds need 2230 or 2242.
- PCIe generation. A PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 SSD works in an older slot at that slot's speed.
- Heatsink. Fast NVMe drives may need a heatsink in a desktop or the PS5; laptops usually need a drive without one.
- Moving your system. To replace a laptop drive, a USB enclosure lets you clone the old drive first.
