How to choose a USB hub
- Host connector. Choose a hub that plugs into the port your computer has: USB-A or USB-C. Many newer laptops have only USB-C.
- Speed. USB 2.0 (480 Mbps) is enough for keyboards, mice and printers. For external drives and fast flash drives choose USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) or Gen 2 (10 Gbps).
- Bus-powered or powered. Bus-powered hubs draw power from the computer and suit mice, keyboards and flash drives. For hard drives, several devices at once or charging phones, use a hub with its own power adapter. Cyprus uses UK three-pin sockets, so check the adapter plug.
- Hub or docking station. A hub adds USB ports, sometimes with Ethernet or HDMI. If you need several monitors, laptop charging and a full desk setup through one cable, a docking station is the better choice.
