Trackballs that stay in one place on the desk and reduce wrist and arm movement: finger-operated trackballs such as Kensington Expert Mouse, Orbit and SlimBlade, thumb-operated trackballs such as Logitech ERGO M575 and MX Ergo, and 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse 3D navigation devices for CAD and 3D design.
How to choose a trackball
- Thumb or finger. Thumb trackballs feel close to a normal mouse and are easy to switch to. Finger trackballs with a large ball give precise control and work for left- and right-handed users.
- Connection. Wired USB, a wireless receiver or Bluetooth. Some models connect to two devices.
- 3D mice are different. A SpaceMouse moves 3D models and views in CAD software and is used together with a normal mouse, not instead of it. Check that your CAD software is supported.
- Comfort. Many users with wrist strain or limited desk space prefer a trackball; allow a few days to get used to it.
