How to choose a webcam
- Resolution. Most video calls in Teams, Zoom and Google Meet run at 720p or 1080p, so a good Full HD webcam with autofocus is enough for most users. 2K and 4K help with digital zoom, framing and recording.
- Light and audio. Larger sensors and light correction give a better image in dim offices. Built-in dual microphones are fine for one person; for a meeting room use a conference camera or a separate speakerphone.
- Field of view. 70 to 80 degrees suits one person at a desk; 90 degrees and wider fits two or more people or a small huddle room.
- Privacy and sign-in. A privacy shutter or cover blocks the lens when not in use. Windows Hello webcams with an IR sensor let you sign in to Windows with your face.
- Connection. Webcams are plug-and-play over USB-A or USB-C. Check that a business webcam is certified for the platform your company uses if that is required.
