The TP-Link TX201 is a 2.5 Gigabit PCI Express network adapter: a wired RJ45 card, not a Wi-Fi card. It fits a free PCIe x1 slot and gives a desktop PC or server one Ethernet port at 10, 100, 1000 or 2500 Mbps. In practice it lets a PC use the 2.5G port of a modern router, switch or NAS — up to two and a half times the speed of the usual gigabit port on the motherboard — over the Cat5e or Cat6 cable you already have. Standard and low-profile brackets are in the box, so it also fits slim cases.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is a wired Ethernet card, not Wi-Fi. 2.5 Gbps only comes when the other end — router, switch or NAS — also has a 2.5G or multi-gig port; on an ordinary gigabit port it runs at 1 Gbps. Use Cat5e or better cable. For 10 Gbps, TP-Link’s TX401 is the model to look at. Not sure it suits your PC or router? Send us the PC or motherboard model and your router and we check it.
