The TP-Link TX201 is a 2.5 Gigabit PCI Express network adapter: a wired RJ45 card, not a Wi-Fi card. It fits a free PCIe x1 slot and gives a desktop PC or server one Ethernet port at 10, 100, 1000 or 2500 Mbps. In practice it lets a PC use the 2.5G port of a modern router, switch or NAS — up to two and a half times the speed of the usual gigabit port on the motherboard — over the Cat5e or Cat6 cable you already have. Standard and low-profile brackets are in the box, so it also fits slim cases.

Compatibility — check before buying:
It is a wired Ethernet card, not Wi-Fi. 2.5 Gbps only comes when the other end — router, switch or NAS — also has a 2.5G or multi-gig port; on an ordinary gigabit port it runs at 1 Gbps. Use Cat5e or better cable. For 10 Gbps, TP-Link’s TX401 is the model to look at. Not sure it suits your PC or router? Send us the PC or motherboard model and your router and we check it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a Wi-Fi card?
No. The TX201 is a wired Ethernet adapter with one RJ45 port. For wireless, choose one of our Wi-Fi PCIe cards.
Will I get 2.5 Gbps?
Only if the router, switch or NAS on the other end has a 2.5G or multi-gig port. On a normal gigabit port it links at 1 Gbps, which is still fine. Tell us what it connects to and we check.
What cable do I need?
A normal RJ45 network cable of Cat5e or better. Cat6 is a good choice for new runs.
Which operating systems are supported?
TP-Link lists Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8 and 7, Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, 2012 and 2008 R2, and Linux.
