Which tool do I need?
- Crimping tool — for fitting RJ45 (and RJ11/RJ12) plugs on patch cables. For pass-through plugs, where the wires come out of the front, choose a pass-through crimper.
- Punch-down tool — for terminating installation cable on keystone jacks and patch panels. Check whether they are LSA (Krone) or 110 type; impact tools with a cutter trim the wire in one step.
- Cable tester — checks wiring order, breaks and shorts; a remote unit lets you test runs that end in another room. Testers with PoE detection show whether a port supplies power. A basic tester does not certify Cat6/Cat6A performance — that needs a certification tester.
- Screwdrivers — VDE-insulated (1000 V) for electrical work, ESD-safe precision drivers for laptops and electronics, and bit sets for rack and server installation.
