DVI cables and adapters for monitors, projectors, KVM setups and older graphics cards — DVI-D single and dual link, plus adapters between DVI and HDMI, DisplayPort and VGA. From StarTech.com, Lindy, Equip, DeLOCK, Club 3D and other brands.
Which DVI cable or adapter do I need?
- DVI-D — digital only. The most common type on monitors and graphics cards.
- DVI-I — digital and analog in one connector. A DVI-D cable fits a DVI-I socket, but a DVI-I plug does not fit a DVI-D socket.
- Single link — up to 1920×1200 at 60 Hz.
- Dual link — up to 2560×1600 at 60 Hz, and 1080p at 120–144 Hz. Needed for 27–30" monitors at full resolution; check that both ends support dual link.
DVI carries no audio. When you connect a computer to a TV or projector through DVI, the sound needs a separate cable.
Adapters: HDMI ↔ DVI-D works in both directions. DisplayPort → DVI works from a DisplayPort computer to a DVI monitor; for 2560×1600 choose an active dual-link adapter. DVI → VGA works passively only from a DVI-I port (with the analog pins); a DVI-D port needs an active converter.
