How to choose a commercial display
- Touch technology. Projected capacitive (PCAP) touch is multi-touch, works like a phone screen and suits POS and self-service. Resistive touch works with gloves and styluses. Check that the touch driver supports your operating system.
- Housing. Standard touch monitors stand on a desk or mount by VESA. Open-frame models are built into kiosks, machines and walls and need a matching enclosure or bracket.
- Operating hours and brightness. Signage displays are rated for long daily use (16/7 or 24/7) and are brighter than office monitors; check brightness for windows or bright areas and whether portrait mode is supported.
- Built-in player. Some signage displays run Android or a media player and show content from a USB stick or network without a separate PC.
- Healthcare. Medical-grade displays meet medical electrical safety standards and are designed for cleaning with disinfectants.
