How to choose the right business phone
- Check your phone system first. SIP phones work with most IP PBX and cloud phone services (such as 3CX, Asterisk or your provider's system); confirm the model is supported. Cisco "Multiplatform / 3PCC" phones are SIP; Cisco Enterprise and SCCP models work only with Cisco call control.
- Microsoft Teams. Teams-certified phones sign in to Teams directly and need a Teams Phone licence. They are not standard SIP phones.
- Desk phone features. Count the lines and BLF keys you need; receptionists need more keys or an expansion module. A Gigabit passthrough port lets the PC share the same network socket.
- Power. Most IP phones are powered by PoE from the switch. Many are sold without a power adapter, so check if you do not have a PoE switch.
- Cordless. IP-DECT systems use a base station on the network with up to many handsets and are the most reliable cordless choice for offices and warehouses. Handsets must match the base system; other brands work only with basic GAP features. Wi-Fi phones use your existing wireless network.
- Analogue lines. Gigaset cordless and corded phones connect to a regular phone line or an analogue port on your router or PBX.
