How to choose the right scanner accessory
- Cable type matters. Most scanners use an interchangeable cable that sets the interface: USB for PCs and POS, RS-232 serial for older systems, keyboard wedge for legacy keyboards. A serial cable usually needs a separate power supply. Choose straight or coiled by distance to the till.
- Exact model. Cables, stands and cradles are specific to the scanner series (for example Zebra DS22xx, DS81xx or Honeywell Voyager 1250g/1470g). Check the compatible models listed.
- Cordless scanners. The cradle is also the radio base. A replacement cradle must match the scanner model and, in some cases, the radio type. Spare batteries keep cordless scanners working through long shifts.
- Hands-free use. A stand turns many handheld scanners into presentation scanners; check whether the scanner supports auto-sense mode.
- Power cords. Cyprus uses UK three-pin sockets; power supplies listed for Europe may need a UK cord.
