Label printers for shipping, warehouse, retail shelf and product labels, healthcare wristbands and office labelling: 2-inch and 4-inch desktop printers, industrial printers for high volumes, mobile printers for the shop floor and handheld or desktop label makers. From Zebra, Brother, BIXOLON, DYMO, Honeywell, Citizen and TSC.
How to choose a label printer
- Direct thermal or thermal transfer. Direct thermal ("d" models) needs no ribbon and suits shipping labels and receipts that are used within months. Thermal transfer ("t" models) uses a ribbon and gives labels that resist heat, light and abrasion, for products, assets and long storage.
- Label width and resolution. 4-inch printers handle standard shipping labels (100 x 150 mm); 2-inch printers suit small product and shelf labels. Choose 300 dpi for very small barcodes, 2D codes or fine text.
- Volume. Desktop printers suit up to a few thousand labels a day; industrial printers (Zebra ZT, TSC) have metal frames, larger rolls and run continuously.
- Connectivity. USB for one PC, Ethernet or Wi-Fi to share the printer, Bluetooth for phones and mobile printers. Check that your shipping, ERP or labelling software has a driver for the model.
- Label makers. Brother P-touch and DYMO label makers print on their own tape cassettes (TZe, D1, LetraTag), not on label rolls. Order the tape system that matches the device.
