How to choose the right networking accessory
- Passive PoE is not standard PoE. Passive 24 V or 48 V injectors (common with Ubiquiti airMAX) power only devices made for them; standard 802.3af/at/bt PoE uses negotiation. Using the wrong type can leave a device unpowered or damage it. Check the device's power requirement.
- PoE splitters take PoE from the cable and give a separate DC output for devices without PoE.
- Protect outdoor runs. Ethernet surge protectors at both ends of outdoor cables, with proper grounding, protect cameras, radios and switches from lightning-induced surges.
- Mounts and junction boxes are made for specific camera and access point models. Check the exact model before ordering.
- Power adapters. Match the voltage, current and connector of the original. Cyprus uses UK three-pin sockets, so check the plug type.
- Wall outlets and keystones. Match category (Cat6 or Cat6A) and shielding to the installed cable. For more keystone jacks, faceplates and boxes, see cable accessories.
