How to choose the right rack accessories
- Shelves. Fixed shelves carry routers, NVRs and small devices; cantilever shelves fit open or wall racks; sliding shelves give access to keyboards and laptops. Check the load rating and that the depth fits your rack.
- Power strips (PDU). Check the socket type. Cyprus uses UK three-pin plugs, while many rack strips have European (Schuko) or IEC C13 outlets. C13 outlets suit servers, switches and UPS with standard power cords.
- Cooling. Roof fan units and thermostats remove heat from cabinets with PoE switches, NVRs and servers. Blank panels close empty spaces so cold and hot air do not mix.
- Fixings. Most 19" racks use M6 cage nuts in square holes; some use M5 or threaded holes. Check your rack before ordering. Server rails are made for specific server models.
- Cable management. 1U panels with rings or brushes, vertical D-rings and velcro keep patch cords tidy and make changes easier.
- Mobility and safety. Castors and levelling feet fit floor racks; grounding kits connect the rack and shielded equipment to earth.
