How to choose the right module
- Match the exact platform. Modules fit one series only: a Catalyst 9200 module does not fit a 9300, and C9300X modules fit only C9300X switches. NIM modules fit Cisco ISR 1000/4000 routers; IEM and PWR-IE parts fit the Industrial Ethernet range. Check the full model number of your device.
- Uplink modules add SFP, SFP+, 25G or 40G/100G ports. Transceivers or DAC cables are sold separately; see SFP transceivers.
- Stacking. Stack kits and cables link switches of the same series so they work as one. Some models need a stack kit installed in each switch.
- Power supplies. A second hot-swap supply gives redundancy. For PoE switches, the supply size sets the total PoE budget. Choose AC or DC to match your site.
- Voice modules (FXS, FXO, BRI, E1/T1) turn an ISR router into a voice gateway. Check the router's software licence requirements.
