Power over Ethernet accessories that deliver data and power over one network cable to access points, IP cameras, VoIP phones and other devices — PoE, PoE+ and PoE++ injectors, PoE splitters for non-PoE devices, and extenders that take Ethernet and PoE beyond 100 m. From LevelOne, PLANET, Digitus, Intellinet, TRENDnet and other brands.
Which PoE accessory do I need?
- PoE injector — adds power to the network cable when your switch has no PoE. One injector per device; for several devices a PoE switch is usually simpler.
- Match the PoE standard to the device: 802.3af PoE (15.4 W) for phones and simple cameras, 802.3at PoE+ (30 W) for most Wi-Fi access points and PTZ cameras, 802.3bt PoE++ (60–90 W) for Wi-Fi 7 access points, LED panels and thin clients. The device receives a little less than the injector supplies because of cable losses.
- Speed — Gigabit is enough for cameras and phones; Wi-Fi 6/7 access points with a 2.5G port need a 2.5 Gigabit injector to reach full speed.
- PoE splitter — at the device end, separates data and power for equipment without PoE (5, 9, 12 or 24 V DC or USB). PoE extender / repeater — adds another 100 m to a cable run and is powered by the PoE line itself.
Good to know: some older devices use “passive” 24 V PoE, which is not compatible with 802.3af/at injectors — check the device. For PoE use a pure-copper Cat5e or better cable (not CCA), up to 100 m per segment.
